Nepal Elects First Female Prime Minister
- Last week, anti-corruption protests erupted across Nepal after their government tried to ban social media.
- The government began assassinating protestors. The protestors fought back, burning down the parliamentary house and various politicians’s homes. 72 people were killed, over a thousand injured.
- The protestors were victorious. Most high-level ministers resigned their position, including the prime minister.
- The protests were largely organized on Discord. Once the government resigned, the protestors used the platform to hold a vote for the interim leader.
- The winner was Sushila Karki, a former chief justice of Nepal’s Supreme Court. She is well-known as an anti-corruption advocate. PM Karki is the first woman to hold the position.
“The Parliament of Nepal right now is Discord.”
